Mopeka Pro Check vs. Mopeka Pro Check Universal – Which Gas Cylinder Level Sensor Should You Choose?

If you are looking for a Mopeka gas cylinder level sensor for your motorhome or caravan, one question comes up quite quickly: what is the difference between the Mopeka Pro Check and Mopeka Pro Check Universal, and which one should you choose?

... continue reading ....

In terms of appearance and operating principle, these two Mopeka sensors are quite similar. Both use ultrasonic technology to measure the liquid level through the bottom of the tank or cylinder and send the measurement data via Bluetooth to the Mopeka app.

However, the Mopeka Pro Check Universal is not simply a renamed version of the Pro Check. It is a more advanced and versatile sensor with improved measurement accuracy, longer battery life and a significantly wider range of applications.

What is the Mopeka Pro Check?

The Mopeka Pro Check is primarily designed for measuring the level of propane, butane and LPG mixtures.

In a motorhome or caravan, this usually means one very specific task – quickly checking how much gas is left in your cylinder.

When used with a steel gas cylinder, the sensor attaches underneath the cylinder using built-in magnets. It measures the level of liquid gas using ultrasound and sends the result via Bluetooth to the free Mopeka app.

This makes the Mopeka Pro Check a very convenient gas cylinder level sensor for motorhomes, because there is no longer any need to:

  • lift the cylinder;

  • weigh it;

  • shake it;

  • tap on it;

  • or try to guess how long the remaining gas will last.

You can check the gas level directly on your phone within seconds.

What is the Mopeka Pro Check Universal?

The Mopeka Pro Check Universal works on the same basic principle, but it is a more versatile and technically advanced model.

The main differences are measurement accuracy, battery life and the range of liquids it can measure.

1. Pro Check Universal is more accurate

The Mopeka Pro Check offers measurement accuracy of up to 99%, while the Pro Check Universal offers accuracy of up to 99.5%.

If you only use the sensor for an LPG cylinder, this difference alone is probably not a reason to replace a perfectly functioning Pro Check.

However, if you are buying a new Mopeka level sensor today, the Pro Check Universal is technically the newer and more accurate solution.

2. Pro Check Universal has longer battery life

Both sensors use a replaceable CR2032 battery.

The typical battery life of the Mopeka Pro Check is approximately 2–4 years, while the Pro Check Universal can typically operate for around 3–5 years, depending on usage and operating conditions.

For motorhome use, longer battery life is a clear advantage – the less often you need to access the sensor underneath the gas cylinder to change the battery, the better.

3. Pro Check Universal can measure much more than LPG

This is the most important difference between the two models.

The Mopeka Pro Check is primarily a gas cylinder level sensor.

The Mopeka Pro Check Universal can measure LPG as well as a wide range of other liquids, including:

  • propane;

  • butane;

  • LPG mixtures;

  • fresh water;

  • grey water;

  • diesel fuel;

  • oil;

  • various chemicals;

  • and other compatible liquids.

This is exactly where the name Universal comes from.

With the correct installation, the same type of sensor can therefore be used not only for gas cylinders but also, for example, for monitoring the level of a motorhome fresh-water tank or diesel tank.

Does the Mopeka Pro Check Universal Work with a Standard 11 kg Gas Cylinder?

Yes.

If you use a standard steel LPG cylinder in your motorhome, the Pro Check Universal attaches underneath the cylinder using magnets in exactly the same way as the Mopeka Pro Check.

In everyday use, both are equally simple:

sensor under the cylinder → Mopeka app on your phone → gas level on the screen.

This means that the Pro Check Universal is also an excellent choice for customers who only want to monitor a standard LPG cylinder.

What About Aluminium and Composite Gas Cylinders?

Magnets do not attach to aluminium or composite gas cylinders.

In these cases, a suitable separate mounting solution or sensor holder must be used.

The same applies when a Mopeka Pro Check Universal is installed on, for example, a plastic water tank or fuel tank.

Before choosing a sensor, it is therefore always worth checking three things:

what you want to measure, what material the tank is made from, and what shape the bottom of the tank has.

Which Mopeka Sensor Should You Choose?

Choose the Mopeka Pro Check if:

  • you only want to monitor the level of an LPG gas cylinder;

  • you want a simple and proven solution;

  • you do not plan to use the sensor for water, fuel or other liquids.

The Mopeka Pro Check does an excellent job when it comes to monitoring gas cylinder levels.

Choose the Mopeka Pro Check Universal if:

  • you are buying a new sensor and want the newer model;

  • you want longer battery life;

  • you want maximum measurement accuracy;

  • you may want to use the same type of sensor on other tanks in the future;

  • you want to measure water, diesel, oil or another compatible liquid;

  • or you simply prefer the most versatile solution.

Is It Worth Replacing an Existing Mopeka Pro Check with a Pro Check Universal?

If you already have a Mopeka Pro Check, it works correctly and you only use it to monitor an LPG cylinder, there is no real need to replace it.

The Pro Check remains an excellent and practical gas cylinder level sensor.

However, if you are choosing your first Mopeka sensor, the Mopeka Pro Check Universal is the more advanced and future-proof option.

Especially if the price difference between the two models is relatively small.

Mopeka – Which Sensor is Right for Your Motorhome?

The simplest way to summarise the difference between the two models is:

Mopeka Pro Check is an excellent LPG gas cylinder level sensor.

Mopeka Pro Check Universal is its more versatile evolution – more accurate, with longer battery life, and capable of measuring many different liquids in addition to LPG.

If you only want to monitor the gas cylinder in your motorhome, both models will perform this task very well.

However, if you are buying a new sensor today and want the most versatile and future-proof solution, Mopeka Pro Check Universal is our preferred choice.
